iStock-450848187-064358-edited.jpgThere are several different types of tax-free weekend events in the U.S. Some apply to Energy Star products or hurricane preparedness, or back-to-school shopping needs. This year the State of Alabama will be participating in the Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday Weekend beginning Friday, July 20 through Sunday, July 22. Alabama’s 13th Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 20, and end at midnight on Sunday, July 22.

If your state does not sponsor a tax-free weekend, consider driving to a nearby state that does. Alternatively, contact your local state representative to request that he or she initiates sales tax holiday legislation for your area.

Tax-free purchases will include clothing priced at $100 or less, school supplies valued at $50 or less, books that cost $30 or less and computers and computer equipment with a selling price of $750 or less. Find the tax free holiday quick reference sheet for a listing of approved items.
