Back to School Sales Tax Holiday Weekend for 2022

back to school -1014837758-1This year the State of Alabama will be participating in the Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday Weekend beginning at 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2022, and ending at midnight Sunday, July 17, 2022. Alabama’s 17th annual sales tax holiday for school-related items allows shoppers to purchase certain school supplies, computers, books, and clothing free of the state’s four percent sales or use tax.

To see the list of 2022 participating Alabama Cities and Counties click on the link below.  If your state does not sponsor a tax-free weekend, consider driving to a nearby state that does. Alternatively, contact your local state representative to request that they initiate sales tax holiday legislation for your area.

2022 Participating Cities & Counties

Tax-free purchases will include clothing priced at $100 or less, school supplies valued at $50 or less, required books that cost more than $30 and less than $50, and computers and computer equipment with a selling price of $750 or less. Click here for a list of items.
