In May 2023, state lawmakers passed a plan that calls for residents to receive a tax rebate. The state has a surplus, which means rebates for millions of state taxpayers.

For the final six months of 2022, the standard mileage rate for business travel will increase by 4 cents per mile, from 58.5 to 62.5 cents per mile, according to IRS Announcement 2022-13. The rate for deductible medical or moving expenses will likewise increase from 18 to 22 cents per mile.

The State of Alabama will be participating in the 16th annual Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday weekend for school-related items.  This special shopping period will start at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 16, 2021, and end at midnight on Sunday, July 18, 2021.

Alabama will hold its ninth annual Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday, beginning Friday, February 21st through Sunday, February 23rd. The Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday allows shoppers to stock up, tax-free, on items needed to prepare for a weather emergency or natural disaster. 

Alabama's 14th annual sales tax holiday for back-to-school items will be Friday, July 19, 2019, through Sunday, July 21, 2019.

This year the State of Alabama will be participating in the Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday Weekend beginning Friday, July 20 through Sunday, July 22. Alabama’s 13th Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 20, and end at midnight on Sunday, July 22.
